Learn more about our workshops!
Our festival includes 7 arts and wellness workshops centered around creative expression, collective healing, and mindful movement. We asked each guest artist to create session in response to what "Cultivating a Sanctuary" means to them. We are excited to feature BIPOC artists, wellness advocates, and healers who inspire the work we do here at Soultry Sisters Arts + Wellness Collective.
Cultivating Sanctuary | Soultry Sisters | Saturday 11:00-12:00pm
What does "Cultivating a Sanctuary" mean to you? In this workshop, we will discuss and reflect on what it means to imagine, create and sustain sacred spaces for ourselves in our mind, body, soul, and community. You will leave this workshop with a personal definition and vision of what that can look like in our community and our daily lives.
Mindful Movement: Yoga | Owl Rare | Saturday 12:15-1:15pm
Join OwlRare for a deep journey through the subconscious as we transform through breathe and movement. This is an all levels yoga class that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and restored for al the festivities to come.
Soul Sound Journey | Kizzy Satchell | Saturday 2:00-3:00pm
During our soul sound and meditation journey, we will focus on tapping into our true nature. Once we quiet our minds and become still and relaxed, we put ourselves in a meditative state and open ourselves to receive our divine blessings and the collective healing of tranquil energy that takes over the space. The intention of this session is to open up the heart space for better access to the sanctuary within ourselves.
Tranquility Treasures | Gabrielle Romberger | Saturday 3:15-4:15pm
In this creative expression workshop, we will explore objects that offer sanctuary through hands-on making with found natural objects. What aspects of nature act as a sanctuary? Through nature self-portraits, painting, and assemblage, we will inspect this question and use our creativity to give a second life to branches, seed pods, and shells.
Exploring Your Sanctuary | Soultry Sisters | Sunday 2:00-3:00pm
Together we will explore the body as a Sanctuary. We will discover and honor the various movements that feel at home in our bodies. Soulscape is a movement-based healing and communal practice centered around social-emotional health & creative expression. It's an opportunity to embrace your inner self and thoughts, embody healing through movement, and empower you to find freedom through self-expression. Join us for a grounding practice of meditation, movement, and a chance to express yourself led by Soultry Sisters.
Sonic Ritual: The Listening Space | Ianne Rivera | Sunday 3:15-4:15pm
In this 60-minute sound immersion, you will connect with your inherent and most abundant listening space - your body. Together through somatic movement, breathwork, vocalization, and sonic ritual, you'll be guided home into the softness of your body, to create the safety and space to listen, and to hold yourself in love so that you may allow yourself to dream abundantly.
Writing as Time Travel: A Sankofa Dream Capsule | Kelsey Daniels
Sunday 4:30-5:30pm
Sankofa, an Adinkra concept that means “go back and get it,” is often depicted as a bird with its head turned backwards while its feet face forward carrying a precious egg in its mouth. It teaches us there is power in being in active relationship with all of our selves, and in considering the importance, insight, and greater context into what our dreams might offer to us. Much like a time capsule offering a glimpse into the present for the future, dreaming is a gateway to transmitting what could be: how our lives look, what it feels like, the elsewheres we can meet ourselves in. In this workshop, we will use writing as a vehicle to explore Sankofa in real time.
